Quotes of the Week

We were at a jewelry store yesterday getting our watches fixed.
While I was waiting for the employee to come and help me, M and I were admiring the different things in the display cases.
M was staring into this case of beautifully huge diamond rings. He turned to me and said:

"Momma? I'm gonna get this for my woman someday when I get married."

A few days ago, Brad was painting some chairs for our backyard.
They were originally black, but were being painted a pretty metallic silver color.
M looked at B and said,

"Daddy!! I love that paint!
Those are the prettiest things I have ever seen.
They are so beautiful, it makes me want to cry."

Are you KIDDING ME?!??

Just a few moments ago, I was sitting in my chair reading a book.
I heard MTM's booby-trapped door open pretty quietly.

I had literally gone to check on him 10 minutes before and he was out cold.
So I was wondering what he could possibly want.

He usually comes to the top of the stairs and tells us if he needs something.
But this time, he didn't come.

So I put my book down and went up the stairs to see what he needed.
I heard him rummaging around in his playroom.
(Which was really weird because he NEVER goes in there at night).

I looked into the playroom to see what he was doing and saw:

a 4 year old boy
pants around the ankles
standing over his matchbox cars
laughing
and
peeing
full-force.

I said, "M!!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!???"
and he just kept laughing and peeing.

I realized that he was sleep-walking so I called for backups.
Ironically, B was an avid sleep-walking pee-er and felt some sympathy for the little guy.
Sometime in the cleanup, M woke up and said, "I thought I was in the bathroom!"

Like Father.
Like Son.

Cute when you're 4.
Not so cute when you're 16.

Wishes for a Screen Door Slammin'

I am standing at a screen door.

I can see outside.
It's spring time.
The flowers are blooming.
The sun is shining.
The birds are singing.
It is perfection.
It is the promise God has given me.
It is going to be fulfilled.

There is just one issue.
He has told me to stay inside.
He doesn't want me to open the door.
Yet.

He is allowing me to see what is outside,
but it is not time to go out and play.
Yet.

It is so reassuringly frustrating.
I know that there is immeasurable joy on the other side of this screen door.
I can almost see it.
I can almost smell it.
I can hear the beginning whispers.

But I can't touch it.
I can't experience it.
I can't have it.
Yet.

Here I am waiting for the moment.
That I can open the screen door.
That I can go outside.
That I can smell the flowers.
That I can feel the warm sun.
That I will experience my promise being fulfilled.
That I will hear the screen door slammin' behind me.

"See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; ...
Lift up your eyes and look around; all your sons gather and come to you.
As surely as I live," declares the LORD, "you will wear them all as ornaments;
you will put them on, like a bride.

"Though you were ruined and made desolate and your land laid waste,
now you will be too small for your people
...
Then you will say in your heart, 'Who bore me these?
I was bereaved and barren;
I was exiled and rejected.
Who brought these up?
I was left all alone, but these--where have they come from?' "

This is what the Sovereign LORD says: ...
they will bring your sons in their arms
and carry your daughters on their shoulders.

... Then you will know that I am the LORD;
those who hope in me will not be disappointed."

Best Compliment Ever

It was one of those days ...

You know ... where you

get home from work
been on your feet all day
change into dressier clothes with heels
head off to a restaurant
celebrate the day of your spouse's birth
drive here
drive there
realize you haven't stopped since 5:30 am
realize it is nearly 8:30 pm.
Get home
Pretend scream 10x at the practical joke roach gum MTM has got
Let the dog out (in heels)
Pop MTM in the shower
Haul the over-flowing laundry basket upstairs (because your son ran out of underwear sometime in the last 3 days)
Kick aside the random Matchbox cars that always find your toes
Lay out PJ's
Make sure that soap is being used
Lay out next day clothes
Give a 2 minute warning
Turn down the covers
Get MTM out
Dry him off
Help him put his PJ's on

and then ...

Best Compliment EVER

"Mommy? You are the prettiest girl in the world."

Literally made the whole day worth it.

The Birds and the Bees ... ALREADY?!??

The funny thing about kids is that they go through stages -- the "What is that?" stage, followed by the "Why is that?" stage and then the dreaded "How does that ....?" stage. MTM sailed right past the "WHY?" stage and is deeply entrenched in the "HOW?" stage.
The past few weeks, B and I have started to realize that MTM is going to be one curious fellow who just might end up asking us some SERIOUS questions sooner than we had planned.

A few weeks ago, we were chilling before bed and talking about a friend who had recently had a baby. We were getting ready to visit them and I was explaining to M that it was the same friend who had been here recently - only this time, the baby would be OUTSIDE her belly. The conversation that followed when like this:

M: "How do babies get out of the tummies?"

Me: "Well, when it's time, God makes it so they can come out."

M: "MOMMY!!! I said HOW!!!"

Me: "Ummmm ..." (pause and thinking about how to word this correctly) "They ... come out from inside the Mommy's tummy."

M: "BUT MOMMY!!!!! I SAIIIID ... HOOOOWWWW!!!!"

Me: "Well (deep breath) They come out a Mommy's bottom."

M: "THEY COME OUT WITH THE POOP?!??"

So I had to explain in plain terms a very BASIC lesson on where they come out.

I was just waiting for the "But HOW did the baby get in there?" question and breathed a sigh of relief when he asked me to read him a book after my brief explanation.

A couple weeks later, we had another baby conversation.

MTM has ALWAYS told B and I that we would have 2 more kids (a boy and a girl) and 1 more baby. But a couple days after the conversation mentioned above, I was getting M ready for bed and he looked at me very solemnly.
In a really sad voice he said, "Jesus told me we weren't going to have lots more babies. Only one. And it's going to be a girl."

I told him that was AWESOME! Having one more baby would be so exciting and the fact he could have a little sister would be so much fun.

He just looked down and said,"But I wanted 3 more kids ... not only ONE!!!"
