Let the hilarious quotes begin:
"Mommy, is the Polar Express going to come this year? It never came last year. I never hear-ed it."
"OOOOH!!! I 'member those things!!!" (While pointing to the ornaments as we trimmed the tree together.)
"Mommy!!! It is VERY, VERY pretty in here. VERY!"
Me: "So whose birthday do we celebrate at Christmas?"
M: "Ummmmm ... Santa's?"
Me: (Silently screaming "Uh-oh!!")
then, after a reading of the Bible and talking about the true meaning:
Me: "So who is this little baby laying on the manger?"
M: "That's God. He's a baby."
Me: "Welllll...." (Silently, "How am I gonna' explain this one?")

Precious Moments
My favorite time of night is right before dinner when the sun is lower in the sky and casting all kinds of beautiful sunbeams into my kitchen nook.
The blinds tilt the light shafts and there are always a few rows of warmth crawling across my kitchen floor -- reaching for something.
Most nights, this is when we choose to sit down for dinner. And most nights, I close the blinds so that one of us is not blinded by the brightness. But tonight, for whatever reason, I did not close the blinds.
When I looked across the table at my little man - (who had just said: "What's for dinner? FISH?!? OOOOOOH!!! I LIKE fish! But I'm gonna call it chicken nuggets tonight, okay?") - the light was perfectly dancing across his silky black hair, causing his hazel eyes to sparkle in the dazzling light, and showcasing his sweetly soft skin. In that moment, he looked across the table and gave me a small, yet totally genuine smile.
It made me thank God for the sunlight and for M. Thankful that I can be his Mommy. Thankful that I have moments where I still look at him with wonder - even after the "trainable twos". Thankful that he is so sweet. Thankful that I can share these moments.

Tonight MTM and I were coloring. (We do art pretty much everyday after school)
He was telling me that him and his Daddy had gone to "the Star restaurant" (aka: Hardee's) for breakfast.
I said, "Wow! He is such a good daddy!"
He replied, "Yes. And you are a good Mommy. A really good Mommy."
LOVE

KID!

A Little Boy's Bedtime Prayer
Dear God
Thank you for our dinner.
Thank you for my rice and beans and quesadilla.
Thank you for the ice cream.
Thank you for my Mommy.
Thank you for my Daddy.
Thank you that I can get bigger and drink coffee and have kids.
Thank you for the lake.
Thank you that we could eat our lunch there.
Thank you that there are no sharks in there.
Thank you for the turtles in it that don't bite.
Thank you for the fish in it that don't bite.
Thank you for my bed.
Amen

Thumbs Up
My sweet little man was driving his "Vroom-Vroom" (aka: Four-wheeler Power Wheels) around the cul-de-sac at my in-laws last night. It was one of those nights outside where it seems perfect.
The sun was just about to set, and it was the warm-cool temperature that comes at dusk in the summer. The birds were singing songs to each other and the grasshoppers and crickets were beginning their nightly calls.
MTM wanted to drive around the cul-de-sac "like a big boy" so he told me exactly where to stand on the side of the road. (He didn't want me to cramp his style, apparently.)
I watched him take off rolling and imagined the first time he would drive away in a real car. It's hard to even imagine it now ... but I know that moment is less than 13 precious years away. And I thought about how quickly they will go ...
In that moment, it was almost like he heard my thoughts because he turned around from his intense focus on driving and flashed me a big thumbs up with the sweetest smile one could ever even imagine. His sweaty hair was peeking out from underneath his shiny black helmet and his little toddler legs were placed perfectly on the red plastic.
I smiled back.
He stopped his Vroom Vroom and yelled back, "No Momma! You gotta do THIS!" and showed me a very grand thumbs up.
I smiled again.
"OKAY! I Got it!" I hollered back and flashed him my thumb.
He started driving again and a few seconds later, he turned back and flashed his thumbs up again. I gave him a thumbs up back.
"Yes Momma, like that!" he nodded to me and gave that sweet, amazing smile again and kept driving.
Every few minutes, he would turn to where I was and we would have to share a thumbs up before he would go on.
It is one of those moments that when it's happening you think, "I need to soak this up. It is perfection on Earth!"
I did all the soaking my thumbs could do.
It was perfection. Perfection on Earth. And I hope that the first time he drives out of the driveway, I will flash him the thumbs up and remember this sweet boy how he is now.
